A note on the determination and identification of cyanide in biologic materials.

چکیده
A5 A PRELIMINARY to the detection and determination of cyanides in biologic materials, a separation by steam distillation is generally employed (1, 2). This may be carried out either in the presence of dilute acid or sodium bicarbonate. It has been stated that the former gives no distinction between the more and the less toxic of the cyanides and that the latter may be unreliable in this respect. In the present investigation, hydrogen cyanide has been measured by the specific method of Aldridge (3). It has been found that simple distillation can produce quite satisfactory results. It is necessary however to carry out the distillations under standardized conditions. Standards should be prepared under the same conditions. The distillation process was carried out in the presence of (a) N hydrochloric acid, (b) buffer salt, pH 6.5, and (c) sodium bicarbonate. It was found that cyanides, simple and complex, tended to react quite differently under these varied conditions-a property that can assist in identification.

Comparative Cyanide and Thiourea Extraction of Gold Based on Characterization Studies (TECHNICAL NOTE)
This study involved preliminary laboratory test work to identify the relative leaching response to cyanidation and thiourea leaching of an oxidized low grade gold ore based on characterization studies. Huge reserves of gold deposits have been reported from different parts of Iran, especially at Neishaboor area with gold grade of approx 4 ppm. For the mineralogical composition, the nature of the...

The orthogonal array design has been used to determine the optimum conditions for gold recovery from Zarshuran refractory gold sulfide ore (Iran) by direct cyanidation and roasting-cyanidation. The Taguchi method was used as the experimental design to determine the optimum conditions of dissolution behavior of gold with cyanidation and roasting-cyanidation from Zarshuran refractory gold ore . Evaluation of the Cyanidation Leaching of Gold in a Waste Rock Ore
Samples of the waste rock obtained from Marofengin South Africa ground 60, 70 and 80% passing 75µm were leached with cyanide in bottle roll tests. The results obtained showed that the percentage gold dissolution depends more on the ore size consists than on the cyanide concentration with the highest average dissolution rates of 88.75, 94.34 and 95.90% found at 600, 500 and 500 ppm, for 60, ...

Water resource scarcity, population growth, pollution of surface and groundwater by discharging toxic wastewater and subsequent diseases may raise the necessity of reusing and treatment of wastewater. Cyanide is one of the toxic materials which can be found in some industrial wastewaters. Strict laws set by international bodies have forced industries to work on developing efficient cyanide remo...
